Clarkson announced in November 2013 that she was expecting her first child. She gave birth to her daughter in June 2014. “Our baby girl River Rose Blackstock arrived on June 12th!” she tweeted. “Thank you everyone for all of your well wishes! Brandon and I are on cloud 9!!”
The couple went on a double date with Blackstock’s father, Narvel Blackstock, and then-stepmother, Reba McEntire, in March 2015. The foursome attended Celebrity Fight Night in Phoenix.
Clarkson got real about her private time with Brandon in 2015. “I always swore ours would not be a relationship where we have to schedule sex. That is never going to happen,” she told Redbook. “We put each other first. I call it the oxygen-mask mentality — take care of yourself first!”

Months after adding to their brood, Clarkson confessed that she did not want any more children and made Brandon get a vasectomy. “I was literally pregnant with Remy, and I was like, ‘You are getting fixed. This will never happen to me again,’” she said on The Jenny McCarthy Show in October 2016. “If something happens, it’s a miracle of God. I literally told my OB/GYN on the table while open, ‘If I get pregnant again, I will find you!’”

Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock after nearly seven years of marriage in June 2020, according to documents obtained by Us. The former couple and their children were staying in a ranch in Montana amid the quarantine.
News broke in September 2020 that Clarkson was being sued by her management company, which is run by Brandon’s father, Narvel. Starstruck Management Group claimed the songstress owed the company $1.4 million in unpaid commissions.
Clarkson countersued, accusing the company of violating the California Labor Code by “procuring, offering, promising or attempting to procure employment or engagements” without being properly licensed. “It is unfortunate that Kelly is again attempting to avoid paying commissions that are due and owing to Starstruck to try and achieve some perceived advantage in her ongoing custody and divorce proceedings,” Starstruck’s attorney Bryan Freedman told People at the time.
Clarkson also claimed that Brandon and Narvel’s company defrauded her out of millions of dollars by charging her high fees while she worked with them. She alleged that the father-son duo were not licensed to be agents in California and requested that the money she paid to Starstruck for 13 years be returned to her. Brandon denied that he defrauded her in legal documents obtained.
Clarkson was granted primary physical custody of her and Brandon’s two children in November 2020. “The Court finds that under the circumstances present in this case, the interest in providing stability and continuity for the minor children weighs in favor of Petitioner having primary custody,” documents obtained by Us read. “The level of conflict between the parents has increased. The parties have a difficult time coparenting due to issues of trust between them.”
The “Stronger” singer opened up about coparenting during a February 2021 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. “I’m doing that right now,” she explained. “It’s tough. … I know with me and Brandon, it’s just a difficult thing because we’re in different places, and it’s like, we both agree on the main things, but it’s a hard thing when you’re not together all the time, for me personally.”
Clarkson shared that she and Brandon “focus on” what’s best for their kids: “As long as you make sure it’s about the children and their best interests, then we’re both on board.”
